Organizational Development

Organization Development is the functional area of expertise related to achieving and sustaining a desired change in an organization. Change, whether planned or reactionary, is difficult. This is because change which occurs in one area of an organization naturally creates the need for resultant changes in other areas. Without prior planning, change that is intended to assist an organization can create more havoc than if nothing was done at all.

The goal of organizational development is to help bring about positive change and help an organization work toward desired outcomes. Samples of some of the critical components are:

  • Obtaining leadership commitment
  • Designing the change process by clearly defining the scope and how it impacts ongoing

Organizational Processes

  • Clarifying desired outcomes and building realistic expectations
  • Assessing requirements through data gathering and analysis
  • Identifying factors critical to the success of the initiative
  • Involving participants to create buy-in and ownership
  • Creating a change plan that is concrete, clear, measurable and results oriented
  • Managing the change process, continually reevaluating progress and resistance to achieve the desired outcomes
